IMAGINARY FRIENDS

Imaginary Friends is a mobile street show. It uses visual images, large scale puppetry, singing and improvisation. Ten performers and ten life-size dummies lead the audience through the twisting and turning streets of identity.

Imaginary Friends is an international collaboration between Babok and the English company Whalley Range All Stars. The project is made possible by Arts Council North West, Without Walls and The Dutch Performing Arts Fund (NFPK).

GRENS

Checkpoint Babok: A white tent and a wall with little doors.
In front are two officers, behind them an examination table and a lot of stuff. Assistance will be necessary to see where all this is leading. For security purposes you understand.

Grens is a short interactive presentation on the deviding line between private and public, between intimate and inappropriate. Grens is about naivity, curiosity and wonder. Grens is theatre that places personal and everday objects in unusual situations.
All the stuff you have in your bags and pockets. Do you really need it when you watch theatre? Or is it better to just hand over these things, so we can make a performance out of it.

NAP

Where can you go when the ground beneath your feet becomes too hot, while at another place it is impossible to keep your feet dry? Baboks answer: "Let's go to higher grounds".

NAP is like a roadmovie on the spot. An intimate performance for the senses. A confrontation with the elements, set in a miniature world, at two meters above ground level. NAP is about the effects of weather and natural disasters, about bad timing and bad luck. It is about the necessity to keep your head cool and dry in times of fast climate changes.

The fifteen minute performance is set in the upper part of a 4,5 meters high "watertower";. The performers move above the heads of the spectators and they take care that it is impossible for the viewers to withdraw the attention from the events happening.

IGLO iglo-movie 1 iglo-movie 2
iglo

Two strangers have put all their belongings in a small cabin on a streetcorner.
In the streets these two figures seem out of place with their mechanical animals and odd habits. It appears that they want to settle in this 'unfamiliar' environment. They really make an effort to feel at home,
but don't want to alienate from their own traditions.

Where do they come from and how long will they be staying?

The performance looks at alienation and how to adapt, as well as the particular characteristics of people.
In this confrontation with the unknown, it is not important who was here first.
Who will adjust oneself?

IGLO is both an interactive installation and a streettheatre performance. The small buiding acts as a
theatrical peep-box. The audience members and people passing by decide for themselves to have a
peep inside the the private space of the inhabitants. By doing this they do take the risk of being part of
whatever follows next.

IGLO is Baboks first project (2005 /2006). Since then it was performed at various festivals and events
throughout The Netherlands and, since 2008, in the rest of Europe as well. In 2008 IGLO won the
"Price for the outstanding Production" at the international streettheatre festival of Detmold in Germany.
